Islands- Return to the Sea
Heard about Islands from Antickpix (they are really awesome dude).
I thought I was exaggerating when I said that a lot of mind-blowing music these days was being made in basements. I was not.
A substantial part of Return to the Sea, the band's debut album, was in fact made in Jaimee Thompson's(a band member) bedroom.
And this album is pure fun.
What is happening in Canada? Looks like Montreal will be called the Athens of this decade.
P.S: Antick, "Rough Gem" & "Don't Call Me Whitney, Bobby" are awesome man.

yay, a convert!
indeed...rough gem is frikkin' awesome. where there's a will there's a whalebone and jogging gorgeous summer too..well, more or less the entire album.
i've taken a shine to the hidden track too...bucky little wing (i think it is)
oh, and look up the unicorns if you haven't..the band whose remnants from which the islands were formed.
i found this album after a long time thru google. i can't use p2p or torrents (blocked) in my office(man we have a v-sat connection), so i use google tricks to search for music.
been looking for a while but cant find the unicorns (thru google that is).
hell yes the entire album is mind blowing
Wow. I was just coming over to your blog to ask about Islands and what they are like, but I guess I know now. The important qs is though, will they steady me? Everything is blocked in my office but I use proxy servers hehe. However, my IT guy is getting wise to my shenanigans now.
Devilled: Go download right now. I think "Rough Gem" would be enough to steady you.
btw what has happened to your blog?
it took exactly 8 mins to download the album.
whoa...8 minutes...that is quick!
random aside...couple of days back during strawberry fields (the NLS rock show), i met this woman who listens to deerhoof! it was so random, and she didn't expect to find another deerhoof listener either.
realized then how happy such trivialities make me.
We recently upgraded to high-speed satellite connection in our office. Man what fun downloading has become. Average speed is in excess of 150 kbps!!! Zooom it goes.
Wow... you really met someone who was into Deerhoof!!!! I have not met anyone (in flesh & blood) recently who has even heard of Wilco, let alone Deerhoof. But when I was in Delhi 4 years ago I used to know a guy who was into these 80s & early 90s indie stuff like JMC, Galaxie, Pylon, R.E.M, Napalm Death, Fugazi, Minor Threat, etc (my first brush with indie. We lost touch.
Yes, it must be a happy feeling.
