One more list

Last decade was a fabulous period for popular music. A decade known for bands which were genuinely good. Sadly, by the end of the century, everything was over. Manufactured pop bands, akin to Millie Vinnilli, dominated the charts. If you ask me, 1998-2003 was probably the darkest phase in the history of music. But good music was still being made, albeit in the basements (slight exaggeration).

So what is this good music I am talking about. Here is a list of my favourite 5 albums that came out between 2000-2006

1.Radiohead- Kid A
2.Wilco- Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
3.Arcade Fire- Funeral
4.Wolf Parade- Apologies to the Queen Mary
5 Modest Mouse- The Moon & Antarctica

guess you omitted a lot to keep it down to five..can't really argue with any of them (except Wolf Parade..hehe). i'd replace it with the books..thought for food.

also,

thunder lightning strike by the go! team
chutes too narrow..the shins
leaves turn inside you..unwound (this is awesome)

more come to mind, but not sure whether they were in the period you're referring to.

Sure I omitted a lot. A LOT. I sure missed out Think Tank by Blur & Chutes too narrow by The Shins.

I have been dying to try out some of the bands you mentioned. The Books & Go! Team.

The albums in the list have achieved relative commercial success.

Few others that I liked
1 Sigur Ros – their debut album
2 Bloc Party - The Silent Alarm
3 Basement Jaxx – Rooty
4 PJ Harvey - Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea
5 Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

i thought of the 'Lips too..Sigur Ros as well, but i was of the impression that the album came out in the late '90s. I haven't heard Von (is that the name?) actually..but the three I've heard are excellent (Agaetis, ( ) and Takk)

Bloc Party ees good.

It is a real tragedy that I still have not heard xtrmntr. And I say Primal Scream is one of my fav bands.

My mistake. Yeah it is called Von and was released in late 90’s.

Yoshimi came out in 2002 if I am not mistaken.

yeah, Yoshimi was a post 00 album. you've heard the new one? not as consistent as some of the earlier ones, but has a couple that are brilliant.

haven't heard most of the others but Kid A would definitely not be on my best list. Besides RHCP came back with By the Way in 2002 and Californication in 1999. Those would definitely be right up there. Yield came out in 1998. PJ Harvey's 'Is This Desire?' in 1998 and 'Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea' in 2000 methinks. NIN's 'The Fragile' came out in 1999. It wasn't such a dark period after all. Anyway will listen to the other 4 you mentioned who I haven't even heard of but who do you recco starting with? I'm not terribly patient with new music unless it blows my mind away.

Dark in the context of musical trend. The bands, which you mentioned, were pretty established by the late 90's.h
