1977-1984

1977-1984, the most fertile period in the history of modern music. The so called "post-punk/new wave" era. There were few great American new wave bands but again nothing like the British scene.

My favourite "post-punk" albums:

The Fall- Grotesque
This Heat- Deceit
Echo & the Bunnymen- Ocean rain
Wire- Pink Flag
The Birthday Party- Prayers on Fire
PIL- Second Edition
Devo- Freedom of Choice
Pere Ubu-Modern dance
The Pop Group- Y
New Order- Power, Corruption & Lies
The Cure- Pornography
Gang of Four- Entertainment
PIL- Flowers of Romance
This Heat- Health & Efficiency
Suicide- S/T

Punk Rock fan from Bombay! Kickass. (My favourite period would probably be 1967 to 1972 or so, but 77-84 was great too.)

This blog looks like a good resource!

thanks.

hehe....not a big punk rock fan. rather a "post-punk" freak. that is why i find public image limited way, way, way better than sex pistols. in fact they actually were.

bobo: to be frank, not a very big joy div fan. that does not mean i don't like their music. and we know new order was a totally different beast altogether.

perhaps, perhaps, but i'd take Day of the Lords, New Dawn Fades and Insight over most of New Order.

bobo,

joy divison made great music, no doubt. but there is just too much hype/myth attached to that band (as if the whole post-punk music revolves around them). the reason why their absence becomes so conspicuous.

give me one reason why This Heat should not be considered as essential as Joy div (or extract the same kind of response if missing). their catalogue is as good as JD's, maybe better. it is just that Charles Hayward did not kill himself.

this is not one of those unending 'my band vs your band' argument. hehehe

heh. very true.

as i said once on my blog, the only reason the beatles are considered better than the stones is that mick jagger wasn't murdered. :)
