When hip-hop was insanely cool

And these guys made it so slick

Public Enemy
A Tribe called Quest
Digable Planets
Arrested Development

To borrow from Rage Against the Machine

I got into these bands in mid 90's. Thanks to MTV. What they call the golden age (call it indie if you want) of hip-hop. The whole New York scene.

It’s Digable Planets that you should try first. The usage of jazz samples is just killer. And the lady rapper just nails it. The sound is funky beyond belief. They’re my favourite among (along with ATCQ) the whole NY bunch.
