Elephant6

There are lots of downloadable live music by immensely talented (but very non-commercial)* bands on Elephant6.

Elephant6 is an independent record label (set up by a group of friends) which promotes small and upcoming bands. Something like Subpop label (early Nirvana, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, etc).

Some good bands (and they are growing commercially too) promoted by Elephant6 are Neutral Milk Hotel (Jeff Mangum solo project), Olivia Tremor Control, Of Montreal, Elf Power and Apples in Stereo. The most impressive aspect is that all these bands have their own unique sound and style. There are many other bands on the lable too. I have not tried them yet.

Neutral Milk Hotel is the one I recommend (other bands are also good ). They have been around for a while and have been selling records too. But do not expect to find any of their studio stuff here in India any time soon. Rely on the net instead.

*ironically, they still manage to sell records.

Abhishek- I guess you would find studio albums of some of the mentioned bands in S'pore.

These bands are high on critics list.

(deletia)'s- hi! yes i totally agree. i discovered NMH just about 3 months back. need to dig more of them. some other band which have impressed me are Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service.

Transatlanticism is one rocking album. "We Looked Like Giants". What a track!

NMH's Aeroplane is awesome, but have you heard Olivia Tremor Control's Dusk at Cubist Castle? Masterpiece

Neutral Milk Hotel- man it is just beautiful stuff. i first heard them on the 'morning becomes eclectic' show on the aforementioned website. could not get Aeroplane though. but got lot s of their live stuff.

Of Montreal- i just got their The Sunlandic Twins album. my first OM album so would not be able to comment. but the music is great. WRAITH PINNED TO THE MIST -what a song. a crazy beautiful song.

Where do you get your music from? Order online, download...what? (latter is my main source, though i do order a bit too. if you know some sites with cheap intnl shipping, would be a great help)

I've heard bits of Sunlandic Twins, and its quite good.

net is the main source. but few pirates in delhi are also of great help. my sister buys mp3's. like i got dcfc's all the albums and other stuff from those guys.

no international shopping. it is very expensive. i think there is no option but to pay high shipping costs.
